Interesting Facts/highlights

  • Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada was founded in 1956 by First National Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank) and Sierra Pacific Resources (now NV Energy). Both businesses saw a need for local youth to learn about business and preparing for the workforce. Junior Achievement supplements the standard school system curriculum with practical, real-world information and experiences offered by you, the volunteer, to help students get ready and plan for their entry into the labor force.
  • 30% of Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada’s budget is raised through special events, 30% is from local companies, 30% is from local foundations, and 10% is donated by individuals.
  • Our two main special events include the Business Leaders Hall of Fame Gala and our Rock ‘N Bowl.
  • Over 335 local volunteers teach a Junior Achievement class! From upper management staff to stay-at-home parents to college students, anyone with a desire to share their life work experiences and the Junior Achievement curriculum may volunteer.
  • Thanks to our donors and volunteers Junior Achievement has grown from reaching 3,000 students in 2010 to 8,577 students in 2015.
  • We have been one of the fastest growing JA offices over the last five years!
  • Our 19-person Board of Directors consists of local business people interested in promoting Junior Achievement’s mission which is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
